Part fugue, part chorale, The Blessing is the perfect brass quintet piece where a sad tone is required. In compound time, The Blessing is ideal for performers of an intermediate standard.
Scored for 2 Cornets, Eb Tenor Horn, Trombone (TC) and Eb Bass, although French Horn, Trombone (BC) and C Tuba parts are supplied for quintets of non brass band flavour.
The composer writes:
"The Blessing is a movement from a longer work, based on the characters within the music department in the school in which I taught for 25 years. It represents the Head of Department, Rachel, a very spiritual and thoughtful person. She has a quick and kind humour that sparkles as she is full of life and energy."
