A concert work for double trombone quintet, commissioned by the British Trombone Society and recorded on their album, Fanfare. Flamethrowers and Galaxies is a work in two contrasting parts, largely fugal in form, with influences drawn from Stravinsky and Tchaikovsky. The Galaxies section takes it's main motif from Tchaikovsky's 1812 overture.

Although in the form of a fugue, the piece has not constructed to be a re-hash of a Bach fugue, but instead takes several rhythmic cues from that of Bach and transplants them into a fugue for 10 trombones which is neither old fashioned nor too contemporary, but instead a happy middle ground.
