Written in response to the Black Saturday bush fires that ignited across Victoria, Australia. James' memorial piece to this event is written as a chorale, but those seeking a derivative hymn-like piece will find instead a new sound world that is more akin to a tone poem.
Contained within the finale is a reference to Steve Reich, and although not in any way intended to be a like-for-like copy, the reference is consciously added by the composer nonetheless as a tiny homage to the music of Reich.
