Inspired by Carl Sagan's famed video, The Pale Blue Dot, James McFadyen composed this piece as a homage to Carl Sagan, who died in 1996. The piece is written in 5/4 and features a flowing melody which is both lyrical and full of melancholy. The piece soon builds to a grand and epic finale, and bands with a powerful soprano player will enjoy the full sonic experience The Pale Blue Dot delivers.
Although could be programmed on the bandstand, for full effect, The Pale Blue Dot is best performed in the concert hall, where the full warmth of the sound can reverberate around the room.
