This special arrangement of the popular hymn Ellacombe has been written as a homage to the demotion of Pluto as one of the major planets of the solar system, a decision taken by the International Astronomical Union on 24th August 2006.
Pluto was discovered in 1930 by Clyde Tombaugh (1906-1997) at the Lowell Observatory and was named by Venetia Burney (1918-2009), an 11-year-old from Oxford, England.
The demotion of Pluto as a Kuiper Belt object left the public polarised, and although most have come to terms with the decision, there are people still attached to Pluto as one of the main planets of the solar system. Scientists agree that if Pluto was discovered today in the 21st Century, it would not be classified as a planet, but instead its rightly place in the Kuiper Belt. The Kuiper Belt is the region of the solar system which lies just beyond the major 8 planets of the solar system.
The Kuiper Belt is occupied with many bodies similar to Pluto, such as Ceres, Eris, Haumea and others.
