A lively concert opener by the pen of James McFadyen. Concert Prelude is in binary form and is in the style of a fanfare of two contrasting tones; the main theme is robust and strong, whilst the 2nd theme is light and playful.
Although not a difficult piece, the accompanying vamp performed by most of the band has a particular set of articulations, that on first glance may seem awkward. Conductors will enjoy translating the articulated rhythm to their band, thus increasing their on-going development and performing Concert Prelude in a way that replicates the energy and excitement the composer intends.
