Voyage for Brass is an extended original concert work for brass band by Martyn Underdown.
The compose writes:
"I based Voyage for Brass on themes composed some 50 years ago whilst a student at Huddersfield school of music, to create a modern-day concert piece for brass band. It takes listeners and players alike, on a voyage of discovery: a melancholic opening portrays apprehension and excitement at the outset of the voyage, building to an expressive melody for full band, before transitioning to a contemplative middle section. The voyage concludes with a triumphant ending scored for the full band. Voyage for Brass will challenge both individual players and the cohesion, rhythmic and dynamic attributes of the full band. Dedicated to my former music teacher Neil Richmond, who founded the Harrogate band on which I have built my musical career."
