Aaron Wolfe
Composer
Aaron Wolfe is a Brass Band composer from the North West of England, whose work is rooted in storytelling, place and social history, with a particular focus on writing for brass band. He studied for BA and MA in Music Composition at the University of Salford, where he was tutored by leading figures in the brass band world including Professor Peter Graham, Les Neish, Dr. Howard Evans, Dan Price and Paul Lovatt Cooper.
His music frequently draws on British history and a strong personal connection to place. The Journey of St Cuthbert is a programmatic work inspired by Northumbrian history, depicting the perilous journey undertaken by monks carrying the saint’s remains following Viking raids, and reflecting Wolfe’s connection to the landscapes of Northumbria. The Cotton Mill Worker is rooted in Wolfe’s own heritage, drawing inspiration from Manchester and Lancashire and their industrial past, portraying the hardship, resilience and determination of those who worked in the cotton mills.
Aaron continues to draw on historical narratives in his writing while increasingly focusing on composing accessible, engaging works for pBuzz, beginner brass and youth bands, aiming to inspire the next generation of young musicians.
