Alex McGee

Composer


Alex McGee is a composer living and working in Carmarthenshire, UK. Originally from the neighbouring county of Pembrokeshire he trained at The Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama and Cardiff University before qualifying as a teacher and working across the UK and Portugal.

As a musical director Alex currently conducts The South Wales Police Band, Crwbin Silver Band and was recently appointed the Musical Director of the National Police Memorial Service, a role in which he was awarded in Chief Constable's Commendation along with the rest of the organising committee for their work in staging the annual service in Cardiff.  

As a composer he has had nearly thirty works published for brass band and concert band and has received several high profile commissions including works performed on S4C's Cefin Gwald show on Christmas Day,  a solo work premiered at the Wychavon Festival of Brass by Kidlington Concert Brass and most recently he has been tasked with writing a major new work celebrating Haverfordwest, commissioned by Pembrokeshire County Council, funded via the Shared Prosperity Fund. The work, a Cantata for Brass Band, Youth Orchestras and Two Choirs will premier in 2025, with an interim performance to be held in September 2024. He was also honoured to write a series of fanfares for the National Police Memorial Service 2022, which they used to commemorate the passing of Her late Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II.
