Craig Mann is an English composer and arranger. He has had a love for music from a very early age, starting piano lessons at the tender age of 6.
Not yet 10 years old, he had already won many piano competitions at music festivals, including such festivals as West Pennine, Ramsbottom and Alderley Edge. At 10 years old, he became the resident organist of the Wharton United Reformed Church in Little Hulton. He held this post for over 18 years.
At 11 years old, he took up the cornet and then changed instruments again to the tuba 3 years later. Craig has also played for a variety of brass bands in his musical career, impressively including Bolton Youth Band, Astley Youth Band, Coppull and Standish Band, Wingates, Eagley, Marsden, Tyldesley and Faireys.
Between 2005 and 2008, he was a member of the Junior Royal Northern College of Music, where he studied organ and the tuba. He progressed onto the Senior Royal Northern College of Music, where in 2012, he achieved a BMus degree. He decided to pursue a career in teaching and went to The Manchester Metropolitan University to undertake a Post Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE), graduating in 2013 with a specialism in secondary music.
Craig Mann has been the Musical Director with many bands, such as Stretford Band, Kearsley Youth Brass Band, Kearsley Training Band, Altrincham Concert Orchestra and Ellenbrook & Boothstown Band. He is currently the MD for Bolton Hoover Band, a post he has held since May 2014. In January 2018, under his leadership, the band won the National Mineworkers’ Contest in Skegness.
Another significant achievement of Craig’s was his formation of the Integra Brass Ensemble in September 2012. It started off as a 12-piece group, but has since expanded to 15 players, comprising of players from various bands from the north west of England. Craig conducts, is their pianist and also the arranger for the group.
Craig Mann is now a self-employed music teacher in the Bolton, Stockport and Wigan areas. He is a highly regarded and much in demand professional, as a solo pianist, organist and also for accompanying choirs and soloists. Notable works of his are his arrangement for brass quintet of Londonderry Air and Andante & Giocoso.
